Her Royal Highness's Annual Christmas Musical Celebration Spotlights Community Volunteers
The Princess of Wales is hosting her yearly Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have helped their communities.
The sizable congregation will listen to a blend of carols, music and readings from actors such as Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.
A Theme of Kindness and Compassion
The focus of the concert, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.
In the audience are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose daughter died of a tumour, and who set up a charity, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a child with a terminal illness.
"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an extraordinary difference to the lives of others," the Princess expressed in a letter ahead of the concert.
A Steady Comeback
The Princess of Wales is continuing her own steady comeback to public life following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".
Music and Opportunity
Guests arriving at the Abbey will be entertained by talented youth performers supported by the Future Talent organisation, co-founded by the former royal to broaden opportunities for instrumental training.
Carys Wood, aged 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Wales, has been assisted by the charity, with awards contributing to equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "amazing" to be taking part in tonight's service.
"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," she stated. She is now studying at the prestigious music academy, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to cultivate their performance abilities.
Generations Gathering
Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who plays the euphonium, will likewise attend the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many important people," she said.
Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.
That will feature Saphia Turner, aged nine, recipient of a prize for youthful altruism, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to collect donations for local food charities.
Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment
The Abbey has been festooned with specially made wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.
Among the musical performers will be singer Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the icing on the cake for us."
The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on television on December 24th.
